Welcome to Building Better, a monthly newsletter about Canadian business leaders tackling hard problems with positive social impact.

My name is Sara Chiarotto O’Brien. By day, I’m a management consultant working in Toronto, and by night, I’m the author of this newsletter (and also sometimes a management consultant).

When I graduated college last year, I knew I wanted to create a space for myself to continue learning about my academic interests in economics, sustainability, and entrepreneurship even as I entered Real Life™.

I’ve also always loved to write and share stories with people who might find some use from them. Term papers and student publications used to be the natural avenue for this impulse, but without the structure of academia, I found myself with a void to fill.

At the same time, a lot of my friends were starting new jobs or pursuing graduate studies, and trying to figure out how to build careers for themselves that aligned with the problems they cared about.

And so Building Better was born.

Each month, I’ll share the story of a Canadian who is taking the future into their own hands, solving problems like climate change, food security, and more.

The first interview comes out Tomorrow, where you’ll meet the CEO of an energy storage company accelerating the deployment of renewable energy across the world.
